Million Dollar Question :)
by Spark on Dec.28, 2009, under Personal, Science and Technology, Spark Spot
An unanswered million dollar question for many of them is…How do you begin living your best life? Does it begin the moment you are born? Or does it begin after you’ve accomplished all of your goals? I believe the answer is when you fully realize your potential, purpose and passion. And these three things may not come at once. When we as individuals realize that we are here for a certain reason, a certain mission that has to be fulfilled there is something great about that. Even though we may not fully grasp what that purpose may be, just the central idea that our being here is necessary is sufficient enough.
When we find the things we are most passionate about, it becomes a driving force for many of us. It helps us discover who we are and it serves as an indicator of things to come. When I say it “serves as an indicator for things to come,” I mean our passions follow us where ever we go. And it unfolds throughout our lives whether we like it or not. Passions, I believe are unstoppable forces once discovered. Some passions are heavier than others. For example, I love fashion. But I love social issues, human rights just helping people more. When I worked in the fashion industry, I kept on asking myself how will I save the world or make any impact on the world by organizing high-fashion trunk shows. Ultimately my passion for making a difference and fighting for certain social issues followed me.
The most important thing is knowing we have limitless potential. When we realize our potential and we in turn realize how powerful we can become. Potential and Power go hand in hand. In order to be powerful you must believe that you possess some sort of potential to even consider yourself or for others to consider you as powerful. We consider President Elect Barack Obama as powerful because we knew he had potential to become President of the United to States.
To begin to live your best life that leads to happiness and understanding one must understand their potential, purpose and passion. And these factors are three out of many and understanding that will lead you one step closer to living your best life.

NASA Postpones Launch!
by Spark on Jun.20, 2009, under Facts, News, Science and Technology, Spark Spot
The current hot news is that NASA has postponed the launch of Endeavour space shuttle after engineers failed to fix a hydrogen leak during fueling. Endeavour is to make a 16-day visit to the International Space Station to complete the assembly of the $1 billion Japanese Kibo research facility.
Today’s takeoff from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, was canceled at 1:55 a.m. local time because of the leak in a system that vents excess hydrogen as the shuttle’s external fuel tank is being filled with more than 500,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen.
Engineers still don’t know the cause of the leak, which is no larger than a pinhole. “It’s very small, but it’s something we have to be concerned about,” Scolese said via video conference from Kennedy. The spacecraft’s June 13 launch was postponed because of a leak in the same system, which carries the excess hydrogen gas away from the launch pad to an area where it can be safely burned off.
The shuttle can’t take off between June 22 and July 10, when the orbit of the space station would expose the spacecraft to too much sunlight and overheat the vessel’s systems. In March, the launch of the shuttle Discovery was postponed after technicians found a leaky valve in the same system. That mission, which went ahead March 15 to March 28, had already been delayed several times so engineers could test valves that help deliver hydrogen to the engines at the correct pressure.
NASA is scheduled to launch the Lunar Reconnaisance Orbiter and Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite from Cape Canaveral at 5:12 p.m. local time tomorrow. That mission, which will survey the lunar surface and seek traces of water as part of a longer-term plan to return American astronauts to the moon, had already been delayed a day because of the postponement of the Endeavour launch.
BJP Leader Disappointed!
by Spark on May.19, 2009, under Economy and Finance, Entertainment, Facts, News, Science and Technology, Spark Spot
NDA led by BJP was defeated in a very worse manner by Congress led UPA. BJP and its leader LK. Advani is totally disappointed with the election result that had came out in India. This is a really a very poor race put up BJP as the whole nation expected the UPA - NDA contest to be more close.
BJP is in a totally unfavorable position to form the government in India. Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh Saturday conceded that he had not anticipated his party’s poor electoral showing. ‘The BJP’s performance in the results is very much unexpected. The success for the NDA that we had hoped for has not materialised.
The reasons for this will be discussed later,’ Rajnath Singh told reporters.Asked if it had anything to do with BJP veteran Atal Bihari Vajpayee not campaigning for them, he said: ‘Vajpayeeji did not campaign for us this time but he did support us.’
UPA Alliance Strong?
by Spark on May.15, 2009, under Economy and Finance, Entertainment, Facts, News, Personal, Science and Technology, Spark Spot, Sports
United Progressive Alliance led by Congress Party is expected to get 216 seats, 40 seats ahead of the opposition BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, who are likely to win 177 seats in the general election. The Third Front, a loosely-built coalition of smaller regional parties led by the left parties, will end up with 105 seats, the channel said.
The left will not support a Congress-led government at the centre, but said no government was possible without the support of the Third Front, a coalition of smaller regional parties. The left recently softened its stand against the ruling Congress party, that may help it to form a government. The left will first try to form an alternative government with help from its allies in The Third Front, but if the front disintegrates, the left might might sit in the opposition and allow the Congress to form a government.
A regional party in the potential swing state of Andhra Pradesh said it will join the BJP-led coalition in a boost to the latter’s alliance building efforts. The regional Telangana Rashtra Samithi said the NDA promised to fulfil the party’s longstanding demand for a separate Telangana state carved out of Andhra Pradesh, which currently boasts 42 seats in India’s national parliament. The TRS had fought the election with the Third Front.
The Congress party has opened its doors to all parties to cobble together a coalition, that could form the next government. The Congress, which has struggled to keep its allies happy, is negotiating with all political groups, even those belonging to the opposition BJP-led alliance, and was slightly ahead of the BJP-led bloc in exit polls.
Hindu-nationalist BJP, the main opposition party, said it will emerge as the single-largest after election results are announced on Saturday, and will form the government with help from allies, and new partners. The BJP was speaking to the AIADMK and Telugu Desam Party in southern India for possible alliances, which could help them get the numbers required to form a government
Hydrogen Storage Sysytem for Cars!
by Spark on Apr.06, 2009, under Facts, News, Science and Technology, Spark Spot
Hydrogen storage system, being developed since 2 years, makes possible to fill a fuel tank that would facilitate a 300 mile long drive. The system uses a fine powder called metal hydride to absorb hydrogen gas. The researchers have created the system’s heat exchanger, which circulates coolant through tubes and uses fins to remove heat generated as the hydrogen is absorbed by the powder.
The heat exchanger is critical because the system stops absorbing hydrogen effectively if it overheats. The hydride produces an enormous amount of heat. It would take a minimum of 40 minutes to fill the tank without cooling, and that would be entirely impractical.
Researchers envision a system that would enable motorists to fill their car with hydrogen within a few minutes. The hydrogen would then be used to power a fuel cell to generate electricity to drive an electric motor.
The idea is to have a system that fills the tank and at the same time uses accessory connectors that supply coolant to extract the heat. This presented an engineering challenge because we had to figure out how to fill the fuel vessel with hydrogen quickly while also removing the heat efficiently. The problem is, nobody had ever designed this type of heat exchanger before. It’s a whole new animal that we designed from scratch.
The metal hydride is contained in compartments inside the storage pressure vessel. Hydrogen gas is pumped into the vessel at high pressure and absorbed by the powder. This process is reversible, meaning the hydrogen gas may be released from the metal hydride by decreasing the pressure in the storage vessel. The heat exchanger is fitted inside the hydrogen storage pressure vessel. Due to space constraints, it is essential that the heat exchanger occupy the least volume to maximize room for hydrogen storage.
New Massive Galaxies
by Spark on Apr.02, 2009, under Facts, Personal, Science and Technology, Spark Spot
Astronemers have found that many new galaxies are luminous and they must relatively new. Some 15 galaxies in the sample exhibit luminosities that indicate that they are massive systems like the Milky Way and other so-called “giant” galaxies.
The chemical abundances of the galaxies, combined with some simple assumptions about how stellar evolution and chemical enrichment progress in galaxies in general, suggest that they may only be 3 or 4 billion years old, and therefore formed 9 to 10 billion years after the Big Bang. Most theories of galaxy formation predict that massive, luminous systems like these should have formed much earlier.
If this overall interpretation proves correct, the galaxies may allow astronomers to investigate phases of the galaxy formation and evolution process that have been difficult to study because they normally occur at such early times in the Universe, and therefore at very large distances from us.
The discoveries are the result of a multi-year survey of more than 2,400 star-forming galaxies. The survey was designed to collect basic observational data for a large number of extragalactic emission-line sources. Additional rounds of follow-up spectroscopy for the sources discovered in the initial survey led to the discovery of the 15 luminous, low-abundance systems.
While the hypothesis that these galaxies are cosmologically young is provocative, it is not the only possible explanation for these enigmatic systems.
Google Search Engine with Semantic Search!
by Spark on Mar.26, 2009, under Facts, News, Personal, Science and Technology, Spark Spot, Sports
Google, one of the most popular search engines, rolled out two enhancements to its search engine that drives for a shift toward more integrated real-time search results. The new technology introduces new algorithms that draw from semantic relevance of search terms.
The first enhancement expands the list of useful related searches. The second enhancement lengthens search result descriptions, called “snippets“. Both new offerings are designed to help guide users more effectively to the information they need.
Till now, Google could not help users whose keyword selections were too broad, yielding them poor results as their search words were not optimized. The new technology tries to interpret the search terms. Making the snippets longer will help people find more quickly the information they are looking.
The new technology is based on algorithms Allon developed before coming to Google in 2006. Instead of using search histories that Google tracks, this new approach is strictly algorithm based and is automated and scalable. The new features, which are based on proprietary software, support 37 languages.
The new method allows Google to quickly search in real time after considering the semantic significance of the search terms users enter. The algorithms apply associations and concepts related to the search terms. The technology analyzes Web page content related to the query and determines the relevance of people, places or concepts to the query. The process only needs fractions of seconds.
