Gaza Rockets Strike Israel
by Spark on Feb.28, 2009, under News, Spark Spot
Palestinian militants in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip fired five rockets at Israel on Saturday, according to the Israeli military, further straining a fragile month-old ceasefire.
No one was killed or wounded in the attacks, with two of the rockets striking near the Israeli town of Ashkelon. Palestinian militants have fired more than 100 rockets and mortar rounds at Israel since the fragile January 18 truce that ended Israel’s massive military offensive on Gaza, which killed more than 1,300 Palestinians and 13 Israelis.
Israel has in turn carried out several air raids targeting alleged militants, weapons caches and smuggling tunnels beneath the Gaza-Egypt border. Egypt has been struggling to mediate a more permanent ceasefire between the two sides in recent weeks but the talks have shown little sign of progress.
President Obama to Pull Troops From Iraq in 2010
by Spark on Feb.27, 2009, under News, Spark Spot
President Obama told congressional leaders Thursday he’s planning to pull all combat troops out of Iraq by August 2010, which falls short of his campaign promise to bring all combat forces home within 16 months, according to three congressional officials.President Obama says he plans to keep up to 50,000 support troops in Iraq after combat troops leave in 2010.
Under this scenario, all combat troops will be withdrawn within 19 months of Obama’s January inauguration, three months longer than his promise on the campaign trail. In a meeting at the White House Thursday evening, Obama also told lawmakers that he plans to keep a range of 35,000 to 50,000 support troops on the ground in Iraq after combat troops are out, the officials said.
While liberals may be frustrated that Obama is not keeping his campaign promise to the letter, the president could win credit from lawmakers in both parties for giving military commanders more time and flexibility to finish the mission. What may turn out to be more controversial is the number of noncombat troops that will remain in Iraq under Obama’s plan.
Military officials have stressed that residual, noncombat forces would focus on supplies and logistics to protect U.S. interests in the region. But senior Democrats such as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have expressed concern over such a large number of troops staying in Iraq after combat forces have left.

by Spark on Feb.23, 2009, under Personal, Spark Spot
I read an article about “Mayan Calendar”… I would like to share it with you all my friends!!!
According to Mayan Prophecy 21.12.2012 is a time of transition from one World Age to another…. Is it so??? Let’s go in Depth..
The message as per “Mayan Prophecy” says the changes may happen on the choice as how enter our future ahead. Our moving through with either Resistance or Acceptance will determine whether the transition will happen with Cataclysmic changes or Gradual peace and tranquility. It further says that we are living at the end of Galactic day. One galactic day of 25,625 years is divided into five cycles of 5,125 years. The great cycle of Mayan count calendar ends on 2012A.D. We are almost at the end of fifth cycle and this is as much about beginnings as endings..
So friends tell me what you all think about it… Is it a fact based on some Logic… I feel that “Calendars can only say but can’t make it happen. Verdict in God’s hands”

The Slump in IT industry is slowly but surely affecting other businesses to a greater extent. The share market getting down day by day which is actually presenting a loss to many of the stack holders. Also the rent offered for flats is dropping by miles. Even if a two bedroom flat whose rent is fixed as Rs.18,000 is offered for Rs.12,000, no one is ready to accept it. The real estate business is dipping too. Cab services are another casualty experiencing 35 to 40% decrease in its turnover. The land owners who are ready to sell their lands at a considerable lower price are also stumbling upon to get their work done as no one is coming forward to buy at this Black time of information technology.
An environment of uncertainty and financial tensions increases stress levels. The employees who are brought to work recently are also experiencing the maximum fear of losing their jobs. For example if in a family both husband and wife are bound to IT then the tension doubles. Also the formula of “Hiring and Firing” make the situation even more complex. When will this situation change???
Can IT recover back??? If so it will reflect in the growth of other businesses thereby increasing the global economy.

Most Wars on Earth Occur in Rich Bio Regions
by Spark on Feb.16, 2009, under Facts, News, Spark Spot
This might sound different but it is clearly determined that most wars on earth occur in rich biological regions. The study by leading international conservation scientists compared major conflict zones with the Earth’s 34 biodiversity hotspots identified by Conservation International . The hotspots are considered top conservation priorities because they contain the entire populations of more than half of all plant species and at least 42 percent of all vertebrates, and are highly threatened.
The richest storehouses of life on Earth are also the regions of the most human conflict and it tells us that these areas are essential for both biodiversity conservation and human well-being. Millions of the world’s poorest people live in hotspots and depend on healthy ecosystems for their survival, so there is a moral obligation in the form of political and social responsibility to protect these places and all the resources and services they provide.
The study found that more than 90 percent of major armed conflicts defined as those resulting in more than 1,000 deaths occurred in countries that contain one of the 34 biodiversity hotspots, while 81 percent took place within specific hotspots.
The consequences extend far beyond the actual fighting. War preparations and lingering post-conflict activities also have important implications for biodiversity hotspots and the people who live there. The fact that so many conflicts have occurred in areas of high biodiversity loss and natural resource degradation warrants much further investigation as to the underlying causes, and strongly highlights the importance of these areas for global security.
In total, the hotspots are home to a majority of the world’s 1.2 billion poorest people who rely on the resources and services provided by natural ecosystems for their daily survival. Environmental concerns tend to recede or collapse in times of social disruption, and conservation activities often get suspended during active conflicts.
The study concluded that international conservation groups and indeed the broader international community must develop and maintain programs in war-torn regions if they are to be effective in conserving global biodiversity and keeping ecosystems healthy.
